Strictly (2023) Week 10: Bobby Brazier’s pays tribute to her mother Jade Goody

Strictly Come Dancing 2023, the 21st season of the cherished dancing program presented by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, has returned to our televisions. The dynamic combination of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who host the multi-award-winning series, promises to enthrall viewers as they watch a fresh group of celebrities compete for the coveted Glitterball Trophy on the dance floor.

This season has been an emotional rollercoaster filled with breathtaking performances that highlight the many skills of the celebrity competitors. But one scene in particular from Week 10 captured the attention of the judges and the audience, bringing them to tears. The 20-year-old son of the late Jade Goody, Bobby Brazier, gave a heartbreaking tribute performance that honored his mother’s memory in a very meaningful way in addition to showcasing his dancing talent.

Strictly 2023 (Week 10): Bobby Brazier’s Honors Jade Goody

Bobby Brazier and his professional partner Dianne Buswell gave a performance in Week 10 of Strictly Come Dancing 2023 that went beyond the confines of a dance competition. On Mother’s Day in March 2009, Bobby, the late Jade Goody’s son, who rose to popularity on Big Brother in 2002, gave a heartfelt eulogy for his mother, who died of cervical cancer.  Bobby started the emotional journey by talking about how much his mother’s death affected him, saying, “I’d love to spend a day with her just to see where I get my smile from.” This moving statement set the tone for a dance performance.

Bobby found great personal meaning in Maxwell’s ‘This Woman’s Work,’ which was the song selection for this moving tribute. Bobby was able to express his thoughts through the Couple’s Choice performance and the music selection in a way that words could not express. Bobby related to the lines, “I should be crying, but I just can’t let it show,” as they mirrored his early issues with self-expression and bereavement.

It became clear early on in the performance that this was more than just a dance. For Bobby, his family, and even the judges, it was a healing event. The judges, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas were driven to tears, clearly unable to control their emotions after hearing such an emotional tribute. The audience saw a young boy dance not only for the win but also for the mother he lost too soon.

Jeff Brazier, Bobby’s dad, was in the audience and was visibly moved as well. Bobby, he said, was “a walking tribute to his mum,” highlighting the ongoing, significant influence Jade Goody has on their lives. In a video aired prior to the show, Jeff highlighted his delight in Bobby and the close bond the family has built despite hardship and grief.

There were difficulties along the way on this emotional voyage. Bobby’s dance partner Dianne Buswell talked about how tough rehearsals were as the song brought back memories of Bobby’s early years and his mother’s passing. In spite of these emotional obstacles, the two gave an enthralling performance that merited a standing ovation; Bobby received 37 points for his moving homage.

The emotional resonance of this performance was enhanced by the context of Dianne’s personal familial struggles. Mark, Dianne’s father, started chemotherapy a week prior to Bobby’s tribute in his fight against cancer. The combination of personal issues created a unique occasion in the history of Strictly Come Dancing, adding levels of complexity to the already emotionally charged atmosphere.

Bobby encapsulated the spirit of his homage with his choice of words, “Thank you” and a sincere hug when asked what he would say to his late mother if given the chance. It was more than simply a dance; it was a dialogue between a son and his mother in which he expressed his love and thanks in a language that is beyond words.

In a heartwarming display of support, fans praised Bobby and Dianne on Twitter for their incredible performance. Along with striking a chord with the studio audience, the dance also moved the hearts of those seeing from home, fostering a feeling of empathy and community.

The transcending tribute that took place on the dance floor will be remembered more than the dance routines and scores from Strictly Come Dancing 2023, Week 10. Bobby Brazier’s tribute to his late mother, Jade Goody, left an indelible mark on the judges.
