William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) arrives at Fort Ticonderoga at the start of the episode and finds out that the British army is going to isolate New England from the other colonies. In the meantime, Claire, Jamie, and their company manage to get away from the British soldiers, but some of them have physical challenges. Mrs. Raven, who is wary of the locals, is reassured by Claire, but unfortunately, Mrs. Raven ends her own life. The Redcoats then capture Claire as a prisoner.

When Jamie and Young Ian learn that Claire has been taken, they set out to save her. Roger visits the school and meets with the headmaster, who expresses his thoughts on preserving Highland culture. Roger is concerned about the reception his son Jemmy is receiving at school because he speaks Gaelic. Roger is given the chance to lead a class on the subject.

When Claire returns to Fort Ticonderoga, Walter the sick is sadly killed when Claire is caring for other inmates and Walter. Captain Richardson and William have a discussion regarding William’s failed mission, and William offers to help Claire with the captives’ provisions.

Young and Jamie Ian decides to go incognito inside the fort where he meets William in order to rescue Claire. Ian is recognized by William, who determines Ian’s connection to Claire and Jamie. Jamie’s distraction enables Claire and Ian to flee.

The rebel army camp is ultimately reached by Claire, Jamie, and Ian. When Jamie is given the chance to join Colonel Daniel Morgan’s riflemen, he accepts, postponing their trip back to Scotland. The pair talks about their moral convictions, possible demise, and Jamie’s worries over murdering a young soldier.

The episode then switches to Roger, a Gaelic teacher at Jemmy’s school, who talks about the enigmatic doorway he and Brianna (Sophie Skelton) found.
