On her quinceanera day ten years ago, Alma (Gigi Zumbado) was given an ultimatum by her mother: either get dressed up or lose her drum set. Instead, Alma dresses up and heads to band practice. Elena tells Ruby today that their guests arrived the night before. Alma’s dream is to be alone. They despise her musical talent because her grandfather abandoned her pregnant grandmother and had an affair. Alma’s fantasy transports her to Cuba, 1967. A stranger leads her to a club and advises her to change her clothes. When Elena visits Ruby in her room, she finds her reading a book. Elena tells her she’ll be gone for a few days. A night of dancing and music, and finds her grandfather, Martino (Ektor Rivera), there. When a man asks her to dance, Alma recognizes him as Raul, her great-uncle. Elena joins her for a chat. She suggests she meet her grandfather. A nearby woman advises her to recruit Raul to her cause. Oscar greets Elena at the bar with a kiss.
Alma follows Raul (Adam Irigoyen) into the back to pack bottles. In exchange for Martino teaching her percussion, she offers to help. he takes her to his wife, her grandmother. Ruby approaches the bartender. Alma helps her grandmother prepare Cuban food. Alma admits Raul and Martino are skimming and smuggling rum.Oscar and Elena discuss her visits to Havana. On her job, he inquires They join in. Ruby meets the island’s caretaker Sagundo. Elena visits Alma’s room and talks about her family. As part of the plan, Alma drives the alcohol past the military checkpoint. She drives with Tino in the back. He probes her life. She confides in him. They reach the checkpoint. Raul tells Alma about the smuggling at the club. As he walks away, Alma notices a gun in his waistband. Lily joins the band. Tino invites Alma to jam. Her talent astounds them all.
Ruby meets Sagundo in the garden. Elena and Oscar (Modesto Lacenwith) ice cream. Alma sees Raul doing business. Raul warns her not to tell Tino. Her neighbor is watching them. Elena leaves Oscar during breakfast, despite his invitation. Ruby’s ankle is sprained, according to Dr. Gina. And Anna Karenina. Dr. Gina suggests Cholera Love. Tino gives Alma a conga and a lesson. Tino recognizes Raul’s companion as a Committee member. When they return home, they find a man shot in the courtyard.
In a nutshell, Tino tells Raul to take their money, and Lily and head Tino push Raul out. Affair with Felipe’s wife led to Tino’s death. Tino calls in a tip to divert patrolmen away from the dock where Raul and Lily will be escaping. Alma joins Tino’s band at the club, with Elena watching. Tino is apprehended by the patrolmen.
