Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 5 Recap

Dr. Marcel treated a woman who was taken to the ED. Suddenly, Avery (Johanna Braddy) blacked unconscious, requiring emergency surgery. Sarah Rafferty’s Dr. Blake interrupted Marcel. Blake is a transplant surgeon and Marcel is an ED surgeon. She surprised him by revealing Avery was her daughter. Marcel told Dr. Archer they had a conflict. Marcel had to consult Goodwin and Archer, which enraged her. Blake hoovered and even challenged Marcel during the surgery. In the end, Archer went with Blake on a whim. Marcel confronted Archer after the procedure. Archer described hospital politics to him. Avery felt severe discomfort in the surgical area and had to be opened briefly to relieve the pressure. Blake was a pain in the ED, but Marcel backed her down to help her. She was taken to OR.

Taylor arrived early for her shifts and assisted Scott on the following case. Alex, a teen lad who had a head injury and started having seizures, was Scott’s patient. Ryan, his sibling, was injured and had ADHD. Taylor, who aided Scott, may have made a mistake that put the youngster at risk of internal bleeding on the brain. He was stabilized and needed immediate surgery to remove cranial pressure due to internal bleeding. Charles and Scott met Alex alone to discuss his upcoming surgery. The youngster confessed he made his brother hit him so his parents would notice him more. Charles and Scott reviewed Ryan’s misdiagnosis in private… maybe he doesn’t have ADHD. Taylor blamed herself for Alex’s seizure. But she couldn’t know. Maggie touched her hand to console her. Her daughter stormed out. Aside from Alex’s secret, Charles told the parents that Ryan had been misdiagnosed with ADHD and wanted him reviewed. Taylor took Ryan to see Alex, and he threw up, pushed her, and fled. Charles was able to reason with the youngster and his parents about his misdiagnosis. This case made Scott appreciate his background.

The ex-policeman went to see his high-ranking officer father. He thanked his father for being who he was. Maggie pleaded with Taylor to go home and study, but he refused. She took a sleeping pill. Will it become an addiction? Hammer asked Halstead to evaluate a new elderly patient, Eleanor, for the Vascomm device.  Vascomm rep was nearby to court Hammer. Hammer later disagreed with Halstead’s diagnosis. While Hammer was away, Eleanor had a stroke and Halstead removed her from Vascomm. Hammer was enraged and confronted him about it. She blamed it on their medical school rivalry. Hammer and Halstead worked together to improve the patient’s health. Suddenly, the woman collapsed, necessitating a heart drain. Halstead and Hammer reconciled by shift’s end.
