The Creator (2023) Movie Filming

The filming of The Creator took place in Thailand, with principal photography starting on January 17, 2022. The film’s cinematographers were Greig Fraser and Oren Soffer.

The directors decided to use the 2.76:1 ultra-wide aspect ratio when shooting the movie in order to evoke the spirit of vintage Hollywood epics like Ben-Hur.  The prosumer Sony FX3 camera, renowned for its affordability, was used to shoot the movie. During filming, one of the camera operators was the director Gareth Edwards.

For a few on-location scenes, guerrilla filmmaking techniques were used with a small crew and sparse sound recording due to the film’s restricted budget. The last day of filming was May 30, 2022. For the movie, Industrial Light & Magic created the visual effects.
