Star Wars Battlefront- 3

It’s been years since STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II launched, but the game is once again drawing attention from fans. In recent weeks, PC players have returned in growing numbers, and the community is pushing for a full-day event to celebrate the multiplayer shooter’s legacy. This renewed interest stems from Star Wars Day celebrations and a message from Andor actor Muhannad Ben Amor (Wilmon), who said, “Let’s hope a Battlefront III happens.”

The Battlefront name has been part of Star Wars gaming history for nearly two decades. The original games by Pandemic Studios were released during the prequel era. The second wave, made by DICE and EA, brought large-scale battles and post-launch updates that expanded the game world to include maps and characters from across the entire franchise — from the Clone Wars to the sequels.

But despite the demand, Battlefront III has never happened. A third game in the original series came close, with Free Radical Design working on it. There were also several other spin-offs in development under LucasArts before Disney acquired the brand — including an alternate-reality version where Obi-Wan and Luke became Sith Lords. None of those projects made it to the finish line.

Right now, DICE is fully focused on developing the next Battlefield game. According to Mats Holm, a former producer on Battlefront II, a new game is unlikely unless it comes as a remaster of the 2017 version. He suggested that a remaster could help build momentum for a real sequel later on — especially if members of the original team return.

The issue lies with Electronic Arts, which no longer holds exclusive rights to develop Star Wars titles. Since the monetization controversy that hurt Battlefront II at launch, EA has moved away from multiplayer-focused Star Wars games. Their attention has turned to single-player adventures like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Outlaws, and Zero Company, expected in 2026.

Because of in-game events, character skins and story tie-ins, Star Wars has moved toward Fortnite in the multiplayer space. Battle Royale on Epic Games is now where players can play Star Wars with other people. Because of this change, it will be harder for a Battlefront game to become popular again.

However, the Battlefront fanbase isn’t giving up. Their commitment, events, and calls from actors like Ben Amor show that the demand is still there. But for a Battlefront III to happen, the right team, the right time, and the right support from publishers like EA or Lucasfilm Games would all need to align.

Things could change again for Star Wars games as new shows like The Mandalorian and Grogu, Maul: Shadow Lord, and the upcoming Starfighter movie come out. But for now, Battlefront III is still just a dream that people don’t want to give up.
