The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 6: The Pookadook  Recap

Marge (as usual, voiced by Julie Kavner) plays the character of the psychologically tormented mother in the first segment, which is a parody of the spooky 2014 Australian horror film The Babadook. The Pookadook is a children’s book that Marge is reading to Maggie when she suddenly finds herself haunted by a dark, evil, top-hat-wearing entity that begs her to kill the innocent baby Simpson.

In reality, it’s merely a sleepover night at the aquarium, so she sends Homer (Dan Castellaneta), Bart (Nancy Cartwright), and Lisa (Yeardley Smith) out to “sleep with the fishes.” This gives Marge time to threaten Maggie in the Simpson home by herself. When Marge finally realizes what is happening and rejects the Pookadook, who has found a new home in the family’s shop vac, the conflict between the possessed mother and daughter turns into a humorous, almost Die Hard-like action sequence.

The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 6: Death Tome Recap

The second entry is “Death Tome,” an appealingly animated parody of the 2006 Japanese supernatural thriller Death Note that is totally animated in the anime style. The first thing that becomes clear in “Death Tome,” a parody of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s manga book Death Note, is that Moe missed his calling.

When Lisa finds a mysterious book that gives her the ability to magically kill anybody she chooses by just writing their name and a cause of death down on one of its pages, she makes a weird new companion named Steve Johnson (Hank Azaria), an otherworldly creature who leads her on her journey. Being Lisa, she begins by killing people who are polluting the environment and keeping hostage viral kitty cats. The only person who knows Lisa’s secret actual identity as the killer is Bart, who is posing as “L.” in the phrase “El Barto,” but she rapidly moves on to murdering Mr. Burns (Harry Sheaer) and nearly Bart.

The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 6: SimpsonsWorld Recap

With a spot-on parody of HBO’s Westworld TV series, “Treehouse of Horror” definitely left the best for last year. A couple of inebriated fratboys interrupt Homer as he begins to recount the events of the fan-favorite 1993 episode “Marge vs. the Monorail.” Soon after, he is taken backstage at “SimpsonsWorld” by technicians for repair after becoming stuck in a “catch-phrase loop.” When he wakes up, he increases his level of self-awareness and realises that he is a robot living in a gigantic Simpsons-themed theme park simulation.

Homer passes through innumerable inside jokes and references to earlier Simpsons episodes from pretty much the entire length of the series as he travels around giving sentience to each member of his family one by one. Homer demonstrates his value to the Stonecutters, Lisa is dressed as Flores, Bart the General, and a plethora of other characters are included.

Homer ultimately loses it when two Australian tourists force him to imitate the “receding into the bushes” meme after Bart flips the valve that shields actual people from him. After engaging in combat with a horde of Ralph Wiggum’s, the Simpson family escapes in Marge’s dependable Canyonero SUV and stops to rest at what they mistakenly believe to be a real-world diner, but in a playful twist, it turns out to be the Bob’s Burgers restaurant in another similarly themed amusement park, with John Roberts guest-starring as Linda Belcher.
