She’d assisted Catherine before since she knew Diane could lose Henry without her children. Diane no longer wants to share Henry after that. Catherine passionately attempts to win her husband’s favor, but she worries she’ll wind up like other court ladies who do worthless things while their men seek younger mistresses. She refuses to give up, and Henry’s father, King Francis, dies. Before dying, he ensures Catherine a position on Henry’s privy council, making it hard to ignore her. Catherine’s newfound political standing won’t be enough to eliminate Diane.
