The Conners Season 5 Episode 4 Recap
Caleb, a 17-year-old kid who is portrayed by Shameless actor Ethan Cutkosky alias Carl Gallagher, is the only child that their estranged brother Aaron left behind after he passed away from a heart attack during the cold open, Louise and Neville learned. Who would board their jaded nephew, who had a difficult time with an alcoholic father, was now up to the remaining Goldufski siblings (with their respective spouses, Dan and Jackie). Jackie, a fellow Bad Parent Club alumna, believed she could give Caleb a secure home life. Since Andy no longer lives, it briefly seemed as though the program was going to give Roseanne’s eccentric sister the son she never had. With Caleb being a disturbed youngster in need of housing, the plot also had strong David Healy (Johnny Galecki)echoes. He also reminded me so much of Darlene’s ex-husband, which didn’t help. However, Caleb had joined the Marines by the end of the episode, and his uncle Neville couldn’t have been more pleased with the choice.
Additionally, we got more information about DJ’s whereabouts. Before DJ (First mention of DJ since Michael Fishman left in August.) returned from seeing his wife, who is now stationed in Germany, Louise said that Mary was dividing her time between the Conner household and Geena’s mother’s residence. Darlene begins worrying for Mary Conner (Jayden Rey), her niece. The adolescent appears to be resentful of her parents and wants to spend more time alone in her room. It reminds Darlene of a notable “Roseanne” plot line and makes her reflect on the despair she experienced as a teenager. When “Roseanne” was in its fourth season, Darlene’s battle with depression began. In its fourth season, we find that the youngster has entered a depressed phase after an injury ended her time playing basketball. She spends a lot of time on the couch, dressed all in black, and gazing off into space. Like Mary, Darlene just replies that she wants to be left alone when Roseanne Conner (Roseanne Barr) asks how she can help her. The episode doesn’t neatly tie up Darlene’s despair; rather, throughout the course of the remaining episodes of “Roseanne,” Darlene gradually shakes off her depression. For Mary, things take a different turn; by the episode’s conclusion, we learn that she is actually not depressed at all but is instead dating her first boyfriend. She treats the youngster amusingly like Darlene used to treat David, which makes Becky and Darlene feel bad for him.
