The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 1 Recap: MIA Reddington (James Spader), who had been missing for six months, reappears in Manhattan at the beginning of the tenth and final season of the suspense series The Blacklist. This takes place six months after Wujing (Chin Han), an early blacklister and terrorist, escaped from custody. Excellent timing, as Wujing is currently rallying other burned cohorts to pursue vengeance on Red, the former mafia boss who is now cooperating with the FBI. Anya Banerjee joins the cast in the role of Siya Malik, an MI6 agent who is also the daughter of the late CIA spy Meera Malik, played by Parminder Nagra in the first season. Unexpectedly, Aram (Amir Arison) sees Red in New York City while wearing a disguise (where Aram moved at the end of season 9). Even though Aram yells at him loudly, Red doesn’t appear to pay attention; he doesn’t even see him leave in a taxi before giving him an unmistakable scowl as he pulls away. Aram phones Cooper (Harry Lennix) to tell him he’s in the city illegally and Cooper is astonished to hear this.  He is currently engaged in a game of cards with a very cheerful Agnes (Sami Bray). As they’re talking, an explosion goes off in an apartment next door, and they have to hang up.  “Until Red left, we were getting along rather well. We had promised to be more honest with one another “He then expresses his curiosity about Red’s whereabouts and activities to Aram.

Cooper arranges for Dembe (Hisham Tawfiq) to grab Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) from the support group where he was celebrating his 311th day sober. Dembe is pleased to leave the post-Gerard documents at the Task Force headquarters.    the two finally make it to New York City in time to get into a fight with a Chinese official named Chin Yao (Grant Chan). The flats Red caught fire is technically part of the Chinese embassy, making it illegal for law enforcement to enter. However, I think we can all agree that our Task Force doesn’t let little things like international law stand in their way, particularly when a firefighter discovers a body in the wreckage. Yao phones Wujing to tell him what occurred while Ressler takes the dead woman’s laptop. Wujing, too, quickly concludes that Red must be to blame…

With the help of a little more information, the Task Force has reunited in Washington to track down expert thief Jennifer Moores (MaYaa Boateng), last seen in episode 5 during Season 8. Dembe phones Red’s new security director, Chuck, and learns that Chuck has no clue where his leader is or that he is even back in the country, despite the fact that it is obvious that she was recruited to steal something.  When Dembe needs assistance fixing Moores’ laptop but Aram isn’t available to do it, he turns to Tashido Ito (Alex Shimizu). Anzu Lawson reprises her role as Tashido’s mother/agent Mariko, who is shocked to learn that Dembe has gone FBI and prefers cash payments. Tashido rushes to retrieve the laptop’s data before Cooper can have his half-illegal search halted by Judge Vance. Ito discovers Moores’ plot to steal Picasso’s The Night Owl from Luxe International, a storage facility for priceless works of art. It seems out that Dembe has considerable knowledge about Picasso; after discovering an injured owl in his workshop, the artist became fixated on owls.

The island of Montserrat in the Caribbean is home to the opulent town of Luxe. Richard Deever (Chris McKenna) and Siya Malik (Anya Banerjee), two members of the Luxe security team, sit down with Ressler and Dembe.  An adult now, Siya is Meera’s daughter. She’s astute as well, suggesting that Cooper give his agent a call to gain entry. When that time comes, both Deever and Malik admit that Luxe is a cover for a CIA black site and that Malik works for MI6. It’s important to note that The Night Owl is not a piece of a statue, but rather an actual living human being. Someone who is very well-known to us.   Meanwhile, Ressler and Dembe can think about this new information as we contact Red. He’s all cleaned up and ready to look at houses with his plainly irritated real estate agent. She’s showing him a wonderful apartment decorated in a marine style.   Dembe also does not understand why the Chinese or Jen Moores sought to free him. He’ll soon find out, though, as Wujing and a swarm of bad people have just arrived and shot their path into the CIA black site with alarming ease.

Ressler and Dembe are engaged in a battle with the assailants while Malik and Deevers try to sneak Vesili out of the garage. Ressler contacts Cooper to let him know what is going on, and Dembe deduces that Wujing was tipped off to Vesili’s whereabouts by a mole. This is also when Deevers, realizing Malik is the mole, pulls a gun on him. He waits until she lifts her weapon, then shoots her in the chest and speeds off in his stolen Freelancer. It’s okay, she’s got on a vest. All the pertinent criminals have been issued BOLOs back in DC, but there hasn’t been any action on them until Red comes and everyone realizes the severity of the threat posed by Gerard, Wujing, and the ex-Blacklisters. As Dembe inquires about Red’s safety, he learns that the celebrity is using public transportation without a bodyguard, which only adds to his concerns.   When Malik and Cooper finally meet, he tells her sympathetically about the time he came to break the news of her mom’s death. She was inspired to join MI6 in order to ensure she was never outside of another cover-up like the one her mother experienced, and she now wants to join the Task Force in order to complete her mother’s mission.   At last, we witness Wujing formally meet Vesili. They can talk about a shared foe now.
