Succession Season 4 Episode 4 Recap

At the beginning of the episode, Roy’s kids are still in a trance from the shock of Logan’s death, and it is then revealed that Shiv is also pregnant! At a memorial service for Logan’s family, Kendall unexpectedly runs across Marcia, who claims that she and Logan keep in daily contact. Even if Cyd & the ATN reporters are present, Roman and Shiv still don’t believe it. While Frank and Karl are debating who will serve as temporary CEO, Shiv knows they’re ready to see a coronation wrecking race. However, Karl quickly puts him down by pointing out how the board may perceive him now that his biggest advocate is deceased and that his wife dislikes him. He’s obviously just echoing the board’s position.

When Roman tries to contact Matsson, he is redirected to someone named Oskar, who reveals that GoJo is confused about who is in charge of Waystar at the moment. Newlyweds Connor and Willa show up, and he announces that he plans to purchase Logan’s townhouse in addition to campaigning in many swing states with his new wife. Marcia requests between $60 and $70 million, and the two parties eventually settle on $63 million. Done! Meanwhile, Frank discovered an unsettling document in Logan’s secret safe: a signed letter outlining Logan’s final desires, with a penciled-in addition. Logan’s offspring embrace one another and express their amazement at their father’s eulogistic press coverage. Hugo, however, draws Kendall aside to discuss a potential issue: Hugo’s daughter sold a large amount of Waystar shares shortly before news of Logan’s death became public, and Hugo is unable to recall whether or not he spoke to her on that day.

But the news has boosted Kendall’s confidence, and she is seeking to be made interim CEO. Shiv loses it when he is opposed. Kendall is speechless and contemplative to Frank. However, he is now imagining himself sitting in the executive office. When Tom tries to console Shiv, she pushes away because she is afraid that the news will drive a wedge between the three of them. He recalls the early days of their relationship when he would write her sweet notes.

Sandi and Stewy, together with Sandi’s dad and Logan’s old adversary Sandy Furness, who is in a wheelchair but still alive, pay their tribute to the former presidential candidate Jeryd Mencken. When Kerri arrives, she and Marcia get into an uncomfortable fight when Kerri attempts to retrieve her belongings from the second story and Marcia has guards forcibly stop her, delivering Kerri a bag filled with her belongings that falls across the floor. Kerri sobs at the broken wedding plans with Logan. Kendall confides in Stewy about Logan’s intentions and solicits his support in her role as CEO; Stewy offers comfort. Stewy inquires directly. When Kendall draws Roman and Shiv aside, the two of them express a desire to take over as CEO and express disapproval of Ken’s candidacy. So then. While Kendall has no problem with Roman being co-CEO, he is hesitant to promote Shiv to the same position. However, they pledge to include her in all major decisions on an equal footing, as Kendall puts it.

Succession Season 4 Episode 4 Recap: A Kendall, Hugo plan!

Kendall and Roman announce their leadership plans to the upper management of Waystar. After much back-and-forth during which Shiv can only look despondent, the board finally votes in favor, as follows: Kendall and Roman now share the role of CEO. They take in the ovation as an infuriated Shiv walks out, stumbling down the stairs. Hugo informs Kendall and Roman that they may strengthen their position by smearing Logan’s name, bringing out the treatment of Connor’s mom and other transgressions, and presenting themselves as a clean slate. This offends Roman, and he and his sister Kendall make a pact to never destroy their father’s legacy. When Kendall sees that Logan may have crossed out his name in the photo of his father’s letter, he corners Hugo and tells him to publish the awful parent material after all (without telling Roman). When Hugo begins to waver, Kendall uses his daughter’s questionable stock transaction as a bargaining chip.
