Fans of Apple TV+’s heartfelt comedy series Shrinking have been eagerly awaiting news about the show’s third season. After a lengthy break between the first two installments, it seems Apple is aiming to shorten the wait this time around. While there’s still no official release date, production has been moving steadily throughout the year, and there’s hope that Season 3 could drop before the end of 2025, possibly sometime in the fall.
The show, which was developed by Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence, has resonated with viewers because it combines humor and emotional nuance. Segel plays Jimmy, a bereaved therapist who starts to defy convention and express his opinions to his clients. Veteran actor Harrison Ford plays his mentor, Paul, who’s navigating his own battle with Parkinson’s.
Season 3 will continue to explore the lives of these characters as they attempt to find stability and growth. Jimmy may be on a journey to understand what his future looks like post-tragedy, especially after losing his wife, Tia. Questions linger: Will he open his heart again? Can he build something lasting for both himself and his daughter?
Paul’s story, on the other hand—is likely to go into more detail about how he deals with his illness while still staying close to the people around him. The emotional groundwork laid in previous seasons paves the way for—significant change in the —characters’ lives.
Season 3 is going all out for star power. Candice Bergen, best known for her role as Murphy Brown and winner of five Emmys, will appear as a guest star in the next season, according to an announcement made at the ATX TV Festival. Creator Bill Lawrence let the news slip during his “Bill Lawrence and Friends” panel, adding even more excitement to the show’s already impressive lineup.
Bergen’s addition comes on the heels of another major guest star announcement: Michael J. Fox. Fox, who previously worked with Lawrence on Spin City, will appear in Season 3, marking a rare return to acting after his retirement. Lawrence shared heartfelt praise for Fox during the panel, calling him “one of the greatest people I’ve ever met.”
Although details about Bergen’s and Fox’s characters remain under wraps, the inclusion of such acclaimed actors suggests that Season 3 will continue the show’s tradition of mixing comedy with emotional resonance.
Lawrence’s co-creator Brett Goldstein, who was also at the panel, kept tight-lipped about what’s to come, joking that Apple TV+ had “a sniper on the roof” to prevent him from giving away spoilers. Still, the enthusiasm from the creators and the return of familiar faces hint that something special is on the way.
With production already in motion and Apple eager to avoid long delays, a Fall 2025 premiere is a realistic expectation. Until then, fans can look forward to more updates and, hopefully, a trailer sometime this summer.
