house of the dragon -episode 7 recap-

The main characters of House of the Dragon season 1, episode 7 are Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen.  They concocted this scheme to facilitate their union and to make a clever power move that would enable the two of them to take over as Westeros’ future rulers. Although they are attracted to one another, they also understand that marriage would help the Princess’ claim to the Iron Throne. The only problem is that she is already married, so Laenor Velaryon must die. Qarl Correy (Arty Froushan) will be paid well to kill his attractive sweetheart.

Everything came together almost instantly, from the delivery of Laenor’s body through Rhaenyra and Daemon’s marriage, so we can understand the criticism from those who think it was a bit too quick. However, the fast-paced nature of this in our minds really contributed to making the whole experience more gripping. In the end, it became evident that some of those are still little in comparison to what is about to happen, which might be a full-scale war that splits this family apart and plunges Westeros into an unimaginable crisis.

Is Laenor REALLY Dead?

“Driftmark,” the final episode of Season 1 of House of the Dragon, closes with a shocking double-twist: it first appears as though Laenor Velaryon has passed away, but later clarifies that he is still alive. Here’s the twist, though: Laenor isn’t really dead, either: At the very end, we witnessed him fleeing! In the end, she actually did assist him, but his assumed demise is now a part of the narrative. In a way, it’s good that Rhaenyra and Daemon presumably collaborated to provide him with this future as opposed to just killing him off.

Laenor’s boyfriend Qarl (Arty Froushan) is approached by Daemon, who offers him money to have Laenor killed. In Castle Driftmark, Qarl looks to be in agreement as he draws his blade toward Laenor. We are led to believe that the princess has quickly devised a ruthless scheme to achieve her goals. And while it’s true that someone does pass away, Laenor isn’t the one. This is how it happens. A servant observes as Qarl prepares his sword for Laenor, and the youngster flees the room in search of assistance. Later, a burned-out body is discovered in the fireplace by Corlys and Princess Rhaenys (Eve Best). They think it is Laenor. After that, Rhaenyra and Daemon are married in a High Valyrian and ceremonial blood-filled ceremony. At the end of episode 7,  Laenor is fine, we learn later, though! He has his head shaved and is in a rowboat with Qarl, purportedly on their way to board a ship in the distance and travel to a location where they can pursue their own interests.
