Jo was also reminded by Link that women require abortions year-round, so she still had to report to work at the clinic. Sadly, she discovered upon her arrival that bureaucracy had put a stop to progress and that the clinic could not yet open. Amelia took Lucas in front of his peers and made him admit that he is a Shepherd, displeased that he had not yet informed his other residents that they are not sleeping together. The interns were concerned that Mer’s departure would spell the end of the residency program, but Nick (Scott Speedman) reassured them that this was not the case because the program was comprised of everyone, not just one surgeon.

Jonathan, a TV reporter whose helicopter had been hit by lightning on Station 19, arrived in the emergency room shortly after. Jonathan was in such severe health that he had to be brought to the hospital in the chopper’s removed chair. A lightbulb seemed to go on above Dr. Teddy’s head when the patient apologized to his wife Paola for resenting that she had wanted him to give up his dream of being a war journalist for her. Was Owen Hunt (James Pickens Jr.) about to be let out of the kennel? Mika spent her time assisting the medical staff save Joshua, the reporter who was hurt on Station 19, in the meantime. Mika told Altman that seeing her in action had renewed her belief that she could be anything after Teddy (Kim Raver ) and Owen informed Paola that Jonathan would survive.

Mer passed up getting an autograph for herself because she already had the writer’s Jane Hancock from when she was a child, but she did get autographs for her children from a children’s book author named Tessa who was suffering from pancreatitis. Simone asked Lucas whether he felt better now that his deep, dark secret was out before scrubbing in on Tessa’s Whipple operation. He responded, “Not so much better as different. That and their increasing flirtation. Nick gave Lucas a pep talk before the operation and told him he was capable of becoming well-known. Nick urged Lucas to go to the O.R. while Mer exercised greater caution. She thought Adams was too exhausted to perform, so Simone took his place. The drama in that O.R. didn’t end there; it just started.

Nick’s boyfriend said that he was unsure when Dr. Richard Webber asked if he would be departing with Mer. He had a hard time coming up with questions to ask her. Webber assured him, “She’s worth it.” She was, though. Mer had kept Lucas’ Shepherd status a secret from Nick. Nick was amazed at the position she had put him in when the pair finally argued. Even though he had no idea how to defend them, he detested the thought of betraying his class of citizens. In other news, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) criticized Levi for using his small amount of power carelessly while helping out in the mine. When Blue requested a consult, Jules took great pleasure in outwitting him. Later, as they became closer, they shared much more about their pasts than they typically would have during a one-night stand.

Winston unexpectedly up at Mer’s to assist Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary )in packing for her sister and to thwart her attempts to avoid him and any discussions of his shifting specializations. But as far as he was concerned, the choice had already been made. He was intending to participate in Grey Sloan’s fellowship in vascular surgery. “We won’t succeed if we keep working together. Maggie was not satisfied with this response. Even if she respected it, she wasn’t sure. Winston was taking that hit when lightning struck the home!

Back at Grey Sloan, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) soon received a call from Ben (Jason George) , and Webber quickly cut short Nick and Mer’s treatment of Tessa to inform Grey that her home was on fire. She left to discover her house in the fire, but the kids were unharmed. The clinic, which was dedicated to Miranda’s late mother Elena, was finally able to open by day’s end thanks to Jo, Miranda, and Carina. Tessa was fine, according to Simone, who informed Lucas in the locker room. But all he wanted to do was criticize himself for doing poorly in the operating room. He impulsively kissed her as they were arguing, but she was unable to accept it. Meredith’s house burned to the ground, and the only thing that survived was the post-it note on which she and Derek had written their wedding vows. This served to cement Meredith’s decision to leave Seattle for good. Despite this, nobody got wounded, and Meredith was able to finish her last day at Grey Sloan in a celebratory mood, receiving toasts from all of her coworkers.
