The Watchful Eye Episode 1 Recap-

Have you got a hankering for some suspense? Freeform’s The Watchful Eye is exactly what we need. Elena’s life (Mariel Molino) is turned upside down when she accepts a position as a live-in nanny for a wealthy New York City family and moves in with them.  A show involving Elena, who moves into a similarly ancient but ominous Manhattan apartment building to care for a 7-year-old whose mother died in a strange fall six months previously, would pique their interest. The affluent widower who hired Elena appears to be a kind enough man (Warren Christie), but the victim’s adjacent sister (Amy Acker) is a complete and utter ice queen who does not trust Elena. That’s the setup for a very average thriller in which the protagonist’s own hidden motivations pose a threat to her life. It doesn’t help that the murdered woman’s aunt, Mrs. Ivey (Kelly Bishop), hires the young newcomer to spy on the family’s sinister activities. The Watchful Eye is a network where everyone is constantly monitoring everyone else. [Freeform] The Watchful Eye Episode 1 Recap

The episode opens with Alice Greybourne Ward, a resident of the Greybourne Apartments, composing a suicide letter to her loved ones before she leaps from the building’s balcony. In the following six months, Matthew (Warren Christie) and Alice (Mariel Molino) are interviewing Elena Santos to be a live-in nanny for their son Jasper (Henry Joseph Samiri). Tory, Matthew’s strict sister-in-law who also happens to reside in the same building, is played by Amy Acker of Person of Interest. Tory interrupts the interview with Elena to tell her that she is not qualified for the position. Like Jacob, Elena experienced the death of her mother at an early age. Her lover Scott (Jon Ecker) tells her not to feel bad for them and to keep her focus on the goal at hand: discovering the gem that will change their lives forever.

Elena obtains the nanny job thanks to her relationship with Jasper, despite starting off to a rocky start with Tory. Once Elena has moved into the Greybourne, she meets the other inhabitants, including Tory’s alcoholic husband and stepdaughters, and Mrs. Ivey (Kelly Bishop from Gilmore Girls, sharp-tongued as always), who tells the doorman to make sure Elena uses the freight elevator. When Elena (Lex Lumpkin) moves into a tiny room on the second floor, she meets Elliot and learns that the building has a reputation for being haunted and that many people have died here under inexplicable circumstances. However, Elena has more pressing issues, such as Matthew discovering her deception about graduating from Boston College. After Elena reveals that she was desperate for work and that the agency was only hiring college graduates, he decides not to terminate her.

Mrs. Ivey and Tory rush to Elena’s aid when Jasper rushes out into the street. Mrs. Ivey, however, is not fooled by Elena’s innocence and demands a price in exchange for keeping her mystery. Therefore, she requires Elena to act as her ear and eye at the Greybourne, particularly with regard to Matthew. Mrs. Ivey says that the architect is too to be true. She is convinced that her niece was either physically or psychologically pushed over the line and that only one person benefited financially as a result. Now, let’s return to Greybourne’s strange interior: In the confines of her small bedroom, Elena is disturbed by noises. Irish maid and building resident Jocelyn cautions Elena against trusting “them.” Next, Elena decides to search the cellar for the ruby. The spooky wallpaper, which appears to be watching Elena, makes the room feel more like an empty building than a cellar. She panics and runs, only to discover the doorman has already been killed at the base of the steps. Elena is being questioned by her lover Scott, who also happens to be a detective.

When the program comes to a close, a montage displays an antique photograph of Greybourne founder Alistair sitting on Mrs. Ivey’s desk. (How many years has she been a resident?) Meanwhile, Tory stares at a photo of her sister and Matthew, wondering if she is in love with her brother-in-law, and one of her stepdaughters has Alice’s stationery. , and Matthew rips Alice’s garments off the racks.  Ginny (Aliyah Royale), another nanny at the Greybourne, says she has never heard of her.
