Duck Dynasty Patriarch Phil Robertson Passes Away

Phil Robertson, the founder of the Duck Commander brand and the central figure of the hit reality TV series Duck Dynasty, has died at the age of 79. His son, Jase Robertson, confirmed the news in a heartfelt social media post on Sunday. While the family did not reveal the cause of death, Jase had previously shared that his father was battling early-stage Alzheimer’s disease and other health issues.

Born on April 24, 1946, in the small town of Vivian, Louisiana, Phil was one of seven children. He grew up in the woods of northwest Louisiana and later earned a football scholarship to Louisiana Tech University. After receiving both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education, he worked as a teacher in local schools before turning his attention to his true passion—duck hunting.

Phil didn’t like the duck calls that were sold in stores, so he made his own in 1972. That idea led to the start of Duck Commander in 1973, a company that would grow to be the Robertson family’s biggest and most important business. He made his own duck calls and sold them as a business. Years later, they inspired the hit show Duck Dynasty on A&E.

It ran from 2012 to 2017 and showed Phil, his wife Kay, their four sons Alan, Jase, Jep, and Willie, as well as other family members like Uncle Si. Millions of people loved the Robertson family because they had long beards, loved hunting, and stood up for their Christian beliefs. The show had over 12 million viewers at its peak, making it one of the most-watched cable shows of its time.

Phil didn’t want to be on TV at first, but his son Willie persuaded him that it could be a way to share his faith and values with more people. Phil was known for having strong Christian beliefs. He often shared moral lessons and lessons from the Bible on and off the show.

There were some problems with Duck Dynasty. Phil was briefly kicked off the show in 2013 after making comments in a magazine interview that were seen—as anti-gay. But after fans spoke out against him and the Robertson family took a united stand, he was quickly reinstated.

Even though they were famous, the Robertsons stayed close and stuck to their family values. In recent years, they kept in touch with fans through their podcast Unashamed with the Robertson Family. On that show, Jase talked about how Phil’s health was getting worse.

His wife, Kay Robertson, his sons Alan, Jase, Willie, and Jep Robertson, and many grandchildren will miss him. His family, his business, and the millions of people who watched Duck Dynasty will always remember him.
