“Ben Mendelsohn” is the title of the episode, Gene is still unsatisfied with his protégé’s private life, which leads to a shocking revelation when they share a scene in a TV show that Barry helped book for his hero. When Noho Hank (Anthony Carrigan) and Cristobal (Michael Irby) are caught in the crossfire between the Chechens and the Bolivians, they resort to extreme tactics. Barry is excitedly expecting his fast-food order in Episode 2. He dashes to his trunk and enthusiastically hands Cousineau the meal. Cousineau begs to ride in the front, but Barry insists that the trunk is the best option for keeping things running properly. Barry is anxiously attempting to solve his Gene problem. Barry now knows that his teacher learned about the murder of Janice, his sweetheart. The bullets and wheel fall off the gun when Gene threatens to shoot Barry. Barry has taken him hostage and is attempting to find a solution. He tries to get him apart because this will be Gene’s second chance in his career, which he has never had. Barry believes that by doing this for him, he will be able to recognize that Barry is deserving of a second opportunity. Sally finds herself in the same scenario as Barry, with her abusive ex, Sam. Now Barry has gone insane, insisting that Sally give Gene a part in her show because he needs it to survive.

Because his father-in-law arrives from Bolivia with armed henchmen, Cristobal breaks up with Hank. Cristobal alerts Hank when he orders a hit on the Chechen operation, and they flee. Rather than abandoning Barry or breaking up with him, Sally purchases a controller and offers to serve him spaghetti. When she contacts Barry, she apologizes, and he doesn’t even realize what he’s done. To beat counterprogramming, Sally’s new streaming show has been moved up. The next day, she has a press junket to attend. Barry is cast in the hit television show Laws of Humanity. He also receives one for Gene since Barry narrates the story of how Gene saved his life as a former Marine. When Gene flees, Barry chases him down to his house and threatens to kill his son and grandchild if he doesn’t appreciate his second opportunity.
