Hijack Episode Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Sam Nelson tries to come up with a strategy to save the passengers on the hijacked flight KA29 in the fifth episode titled “Less Than an Hour,” which keeps the tension high. The hijackers threatened to kill all 216 passengers if their demands are not met, including the release of two prisoners, Edgar Janssen, and John Bailey-Brown. Until there is proof that the hijackers actually carry out their threats, the home minister first refuses to cooperate.

Neela, the victim of the hijackers’ coercion, and her family are slaughtered in Dubai. The murders are discovered by the police, and as word gets out about them, it shows how deadly the hijackers are. Elaine Atterton, who is being questioned by Sam Nelson, says that her husband was killed by the hijackers because their son, Lewis, disobeyed their orders. Elaine flees due to paranoia, but she is slain in the process.

Sam Nelson notices that the plane is about to enter Hungarian airspace and comes up with a strategy. Stuart, one of the hijackers, is duped into thinking Lewis Constantinou (Jack McMullen), needs immediate medical attention, and he persuades Stuart to land the plane in Hungary. Sam, however, changes his mind toward the end of the episode and tells Anna Kovacs not to fly to Hungary after learning something new. One of the hijackers, Terry, tells Sam about the peril their superiors pose and the possible damage they could do to Sam’s family.

Lewis, who is on the point of passing out, adds that they shouldn’t land. In the end, Lewis perishes, and Sam says he did so in order to persuade Stuart not to land. It’s unclear, though, whether Sam planned the event on his own. Sam’s son hides in the bedroom as he sees the two men with guns enter Sam’s home looking for Sam’s address. The episode raises questions about Sam’s son’s future and uncovers the hijackers’ broad network of contacts. The episode builds suspense for the upcoming episode as viewers wait to see if Sam Nelson can save the day and the passengers on the hijacked plane.
