[Apple TV+] Shantaram Season 2: Is it renewed or canceled?

Shantaram Season 1 Episode 4

Based on Gregory David Roberts’ best-selling novel of the same name, Shantaram is an Apple TV+ original series. Charlie Hunnam, well known for his monumental part in the popular series Sons of Anarchy, is a star of the program. Shantaram took a very long time to make and received mostly negative reviews when it was finally released. As evidence, the show’s IMDb rating of 7.6/10 suggests that fans liked it more than critics did. That begs the issue of whether Season 2 of Shantaram will ever air. (tvacute.com) Here is what we currently know. Let’s dissect the Shantaram Season 1 tale to better understand the premise of the show before diving into the specifics and rumors surrounding Season 2.

While doing time in an Australian prison for robbery in the 1980s, Shantaram follows Lin Ford (Charlie Hunnam), an Australian heroin addict and criminal. Lin flees from jail and seeks asylum in Bombay (now known as Mumbai), India, recasting himself as a physician. But when he swiftly becomes entangled in India’s criminal underworld, which ultimately takes him to Afghanistan, his old habits, addictions, and lifestyle quickly catch up with him. He teams up with a mob boss there who is engaged in a conflict with Russian gangsters. Lin develops feelings for a strange woman named Karla, which only serves to muddle matters more. Will Lin Ford’s newly discovered purpose in the life guide him toward a path of light or cause him to sink even further into the abyss?

On October 14, 2022, the first three episodes aired. Thereafter, one episode per week aired on Fridays. Shantaram Season 1 finale air until December 16, 2022, on Apple TV+. After the season 1 finale, should you anticipate that Shantaram season 2 will be renewed at Apple TV+?

Will there be a season two of Shantaram?

The Shantaram series will now end with the Season 1 finale: Charlie Hunnam’s drama has been canceled on Apple TV+.   In October, Charlie Hunnam said to TV Insider that “[he’s] on a collision course between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of riches.” It starts as non-reciprocated with Karla, but eventually, a loving, dramatic relationship develops. The underworld of Bombay tempts him.

According to Deadline, the show, which also starred Shubham Saraf and Alexander Siddig, shot two episodes before taking a break in February 2020 for COVID-19. It didn’t pick back up until May 2021.  It was very challenging, Hunnam told TV Insider. We already shot the pilot in Australia and India before COVID, but we were unable to return to India because of [the Delta variant] and were forced to reshoot. I contracted dengue sickness and a mosquito bite during the chaos. Then I developed conjunctivitis and an ear infection in both ears. I’m hoping that things will go more smoothly if the program is successful and we do a second season.
