“American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” continues to delve into the complex life of the troubled NFL star, with Episode 4 titled “Birthday Money,” set to air next Tuesday on FX. The previous episode “Pray the Gay Away” focused on the main character, Hernandez, played by Josh Rivera and his fight with homosexual orientation together with the pressure applied within the football culture.
In Episode 3, Hernandez struggles with his homosexuality but tries to be involved with a female classmate at the university of Florida. This internal conflict is however made worse by the homophobic culture that is predominant in college and professional football. Tim Tebow (played by Patrick Schwarzenegger), the quarterback and fervent Christian, tries to assist Hernandez by inviting him to a church event. Hernandez eventually finds it difficult to reconcile his identity with the expectations others have of him, as their talk highlights important issues like faith and identity.
For the closing of Episode 3, we are shown Hernandez performing well in the field, including being awarded the prestigious John Mackey Award for the best college tight end. However the triumph, which spark s just, is undercut by his gradually declining health, with an emotional scene involving the silverWare ‘s namesake John Mackey who was evidently crippled by the physical toll football took on him.
Moving to the next episode, episode 4 ‘Birthday Money’ the storyline will change to Hernandez preparing for the NFL draft. So much is expected of him especially as dreams of a bright future begin to falter with the revelations of his past. In this episode the writers Ryan Farley and Chelsey Lora, and the director Paris Barclay will give us a more complex view about Hernandez’ dream and the obstacles he has as a life that could put in risk all that he wants for him and his family.

This new episode will probably maintain the series’ exploration of the character’s upbringing difficulties in combination with athletic accomplishments. In the course of the series, the audience is likely to gain additional information regarding the way Hernandez was living his life; the life of a terrorist and the life of a celebrity.

As a show that makes its debut at the beginning of the year and was given a total of 10 episodes for this season, everyone is looking forward as to how the story of Aaron Hernandez will progress and what are the new discoveries that will be presented in the future episodes.
