A Million Little Things Season 5 Episode 1 Recap: Is Gary Dead?

The hour begins with Javier encouraging Gary through chemotherapy. During Gary’s chemo treatments, his dad is there to keep him company.  Their relationship has developed wonderfully over the series as they have reconnected, and it is heartwarming to see him provide alibis for Gary without inquiry or make jokes about Gary’s illness in a way that makes it clear where Gary gets his sense of humor.  Gary’s father, Javier, passes away after a time skip of seven months. Shooting the wake after Gary’s funeral makes it look like he might have passed away for a second. However, he did not. Related: Maggie’s pregnancy is progressing rapidly at this point. Gene, the man who had a crush on Javier’s late war comrade Douglas, is located by Gary and Danny. People talk about their deceased loved ones. Gary starts bawling at one point. At a later time, Rome begins to find evidence that Florence’s concerns about Walter were well-founded.  Anna’s incarceration has ended. Rather than start a new chapter of her life by relocating in with Eddie, as he has requested, she opts for a change of scenery by relocating to her sister’s home in a distant city. They split amicably, albeit with sadness.

A more formal diagnosis was given to Gary by the end of the episode. Gary and Maggie of their knowledge of Gary’s condition, and Jon shared the news with them. All the people gather around and comfort each other with hugs and tears. A while later, they go along to his doctor’s appointment, where they get the devastating news that Gary’s cancer will never leave. Maggie bravely notes that they should do everything they can to extend his life. Then, Gary inadvertently calls the infant a “Boy,” and Maggie confirms his gender. There is no cure for cancer, but there are many grounds to believe he can live a long, healthy life despite his diagnosis.
